This book presents a comprehensive and streamlined analysis of the major contrasts between Korean and English. In particular, it aims at providing systematic comparison of th sound system, morphological system, syn-tactic system, and semantic/ pragmatic system of the two typologically un-related languages, English and Korean, and thus eventually discovering grammatical similarities and differences of th two. This contrastive analysis could provide us strong foundations for the understanding of English from the perspective of Korean, and that of Korean from the perspective of Eng-lish. This will also help language learners (L1 as well as L2) identify major sources of difficulty or ease in learning or understanding the structure of the two different languages. The book is based on previous contrastive studies and on an exploration of the relevant literature on the two languages as well as linguistic typology in general. This book tries to do this by focusing on the following: -to have better understanding of the linguistic structures of the two larget languages. -to develop insights into some major mistakes that are frequently made by L2 learners irrespective of their L1. -to account for observed errors and offer a way to outline the differences between two languages. -to help students better understand linguistic as well as non-linguistic features of the target languages. -to help students apply the contrastive knowledge of the two targer languages to fields like language learning, acquisition, language therapy, translation, and so fort.
