Incheon작품 소개

<Incheon>

Seoul, a big city with a population of ten million, and next to it, there is Incheon. It is called part of the metropolitan area and spoken of together with the capital city of Seoul. But it is precisely because of it that Incheon has actually remained as a secondary city that couldn’t grow. Compared to Seoul, Incheon has been considered as a city somehow insufficient and not sophisticated. It has no antique and magnificent palaces, and also lacks cultural establishments of an elevated level. Although it is a port city, you can’t expect a deep and blue sea like in the East Sea. And for some reason, it does not even have a clear ‘local color’ typical of the regions far from Seoul.

What kind of city is Incheon to receive such a cruel review? Is it good to visit? These were the questions I had the first time I took a field trip to Incheon in 2006. 8 years of field trip on foot. The answer was that a key was needed in order to understand Incheon. That key was the ‘scar’. It is after understanding the scar left by the modern and contemporary history that the feature of the city of Incheon is revealed and its flavor can be tasted.

This book is introducing places that are considered meaningful of the original downtown area and has made up a route with them that can be visited by foot in one day. The first part is composed of the Chinatown and the Jayu Park area around the Port Opening zone of Jung-gu district of Incheon.

저자 소개

Author
Kim Hyeyoung (CEO, DETO)

Although born and raised in Incheon, I needed time to understand it. I am still finding out more about it by walking and seeing over and over. I decided to work properly in Incheon and founded the “Design Tourism”, DETO.

Lee Jaeseong (Adjunct professor, Incheon National University)

I started studying, writing and teaching about Incheon and finally ended up publishing a tour guide. I hope that this book becomes an unexpected invitation for those visitors of Incheon. Even though people could leave Incheon after just enjoying it, I would like that they read this book and commune with us, and there be more people who love this city.
