Here, industrialization is progressing illogically. Kim Rendell lives in the shadow of mechanized terrorism. This is because the machines are taking over and the disciplinary circuit is keeping the residents in check.
Rendell is an outlaw because he tried to attack the foundations of so-called civilization. He will not submit to the tyranny of the power-crazed, sensuous rulers of the astral body Alphin III. He and his girlfriend are at risk of psychological torture worse than death.
Kim Rendell visits the Alphin III's antiques museum, which houses the old starship Starshine. He conceives a bold plan to use Starshine to save himself and his daughter from the dictator of Alphin III. In this world, the teleportation of matter has taken the place of planet-to-planet and solar-system-to-solar transport via rockets and nuclear-powered ships.
