In addition to her writing, she was a highly regarded landscape architect, interior designer, and fashionist of her time.

Edith Wharton (January 24, 1862 – August 11, 1937) was an American novelist, short story writer, and designer. She was born into a wealthy family in New York City and received a privileged education. Wharton was a prolific writer and wrote more than 40 books during her lifetime, including novels, novellas, and works of nonfiction.
Her most famous novel, The Age of Innocence (1920), won the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction and was later adapted into a successful film directed by Martin Scorsese. Her other notable works include The House of Mirth (1905), Ethan Frome (1911), and The Custom of the Country (1913).
Wharton was a literary pioneer and she helped establish the modern American novel. She also advocated for women's rights and social justice issues, including the plight of refugees during World War I. She was awarded the French Legion of Honor for her humanitarian work during the war.
